WAYYYY behind on news- But as of June 2022, Chip is working on his Excellent Agility titles, and is soon to try his paw at AKC Started level herding. He has 5 Championship points as well.
All our formal training is on hold in spring of 2020, with all activities and businesses closed, but we continue training for agility, obedience and learning tricks at home. Through AKC's video titling program, Chip earned his Trick Dog Novice title during this time, and we are almost ready to submit for Trick Dog Intermediate. AKC also announced a 2020 virtual Rally Novice titling option, Chip and maybe even Teega will train this spring and summer, and see if we can do well enough to submit for that.
In 2019, COBY completed his MXP2 in AKC agility. He and KACEY also earned Rally qualifying scores at malamute nationals in Topeka, KS: 2 Qs in Rally Advanced for Coby, 2 Qs in Rally Intermediate for Kacey. CHIP entered the breed ring, and has earned 3 points toward his championship. More importantly, we are learning about herding sheep! Chip of course has no problem figuring it out, it's the human end of the team that has the most to learn.
Coby adds another..
Coby has completed his Masters Agility Preferred (Standard) title and just this fall of 2018 completed his Rally Intermediate title, winning a 1st and 2nd place on the way!
COBY started the new year off by competing in obedience and Rally in January. He earned a score of 192.5 to win 1st place in AKC Beginner Novice obedience, which was his third leg and completed his BN title! He also earned a score of 96 his first time in the Rally Intermediate class. We'll plan to try to complete that title in the spring- winter in NY state isn't a great time to plan to go anywhere out of our immediate town.
2017 News and updates
In 2017, Coby has now accomplished his Excellent A AKC Agility titles and is working toward his Masters level titles. He dipped his toes back into the obedience ring, earning a wonderful score of 198 ! in Beginner Novice. One more Q to go to complete that title, we will hopefully get that done in 2018. At our AMCA National Speicalty in October, Kacey pulled around 995 pounds to earn her second Working Weight pull dog leg. Teega tried out weight pull for the first time and pulled around 828 pounds- not bad for her first attempt, and she seemed to enjoy this sport! We had a fun day in early summer testing for the new AKC Trick Dog titles. Coby demonstrated 25 different tricks and skills to earn not only his Trick Dog Novice title, but also his Intermediate and Advanced level (TKA) titles! Tassi, Kacey, and even Teega all successfully showed off 10 tricks each to earn their Novice titles (TKN). We hope to get into the agility ring once more this year yet, and then on to 2018 to chase down some obedience and keep working toward agility success!
late 2016 news and updates..
2016 was mostly consumed with breeding and raising our singleton puppy out of Kacey, "Teega". She is a pistol, this one! We did however make it to a few agility trials and one show... Coby completed his Open Agility titles and now competes in the Excellent level in both Standard and Jumpers. Kacey completed her Novice Jumpers AND Novice FAST titles, as well as completing her AKC Championship with a 3rd major. We also learned that Kacey's sister Phoebe, under the expert guidance of her owner, Jackie, earned her Beginner Novice obedience title!
So far behind..
I guess since most of us these days share our accomplishments on Facebook, we just don't always keep our website news as up to date as we should!
So, let's see... since 2013..
Coby finished his AKC Championship with 5 point and 3 point majors late in 2014, and is nearly finished with his Grand Championship now. He also completed some agility titles in 2014 and 2015 and now competes in the Open level in both Standard and Jumpers, (he is partway to completing those titles as well) and recently earned his first Beginner Novice obedience leg with a score of 191 (out of 200) and a 1st place, at the 2015 AMCA Nationals!
Kacey has dabbled in a few events- she needs just 1 point to finish her AKC Championship, she needs 1 more Q to finish her Novice Jumpers agility title, and has earned her first Qs toward both her Novice FAST agility and her Rally Advanced titles, as well as pulling her way to her 1st Working Weight pull leg at the AMCA nationals, pulling 970 pounds!
Kacey's sister Phoebe and her owner Jackie have made me so proud- in late 2014 they have come out and earned 2 legs each toward both their Rally Novice AND Beginner Novice obedience titles! 1 more of each and Phoebe will have her first AKC titles!
Catching up again!
We went off the the alaskan malamute club of America nationals again in October, this time held in beautiful Wisconsin. KACEY placed in most if her classes, despite shedding all her coat in the weeks leading up to the event. She also qualified both days in the Rally Novice B obedience class, earning her first two legs toward that title. TASSI did not disappoint, making the cut for Best of Breed for the third year in a row! COBY is getting the hang of harness work, and pulled his was to the first leg toward his Working Weight Pull Dog title.
The weekend after nationals, KACEY and COBY competed in Rally Novice B (Coby needs the practice) at the DOTCORNY trials, where Coby placed well and Kacey qualified as well, to finish her Rally Novice title!
In November, the AMCA held another fun and successful all breed agility trial in PA. COBY qualified in Novice Jumpers Preferred both days for his first two Qs toward his NJP title- clean runs both days!
We are hoping to get out to a few more agility trials this winter and hope to earn more Qs..
More health news...
TASSI's father, Stryder, has been tested CLEAR of the polyneuropathy gene! This means that Tassi is genetically clear by parentage. Also, Kasaan kennels' Phoenix has tested clear. So Kacey and her litter mates are also all genetically clear! I may have to do the test at some point to make it official, as OFA only accepts one generation of clear by parentage. But I am satisfied that with none of the immediate ancestors carrying the gene we are safe from ever producing this horrible disease.
