A September 2018 puppy, Chip joined the family in November of that year, in the midst of a winter storm. A border collie is a whole new adventure and how exciting to see what he will have to teach me! Chip is AKC CH pointed, needing only one major to finish. He is learning some obedience basics and some tricks, but our main focus has been split between sheep herding and agility. He earned his AKC Trick Dog Novice and his UKI Beginner Speedstakes & International (agility) titles, plus his Herding Instinct Certificate, all in 2020. In 2021 he earned his AKC Novice Standard, Novice and Open Jumpers with Weaves and Novice FAST agility titles and really exciting for us, his PT title in AKC Herding. He also took part in his first AHBA herding trial and placed 3rd with a score of 84 out of 90!
In 2022, Chip completed his Open FAST, Open STD, Excellent FAST, Excellent Jumpers and Excellent Standard titles, earned his first Master Double Q, and first MACH points! He has collected some more CH points in AKC, and has earned his UKC Championship. We took part in our first AKC herding trial at the Started level in July, where he earned the first two legs of his HSAs, AND won High In Trial for both of those! We also dipped our toes into Rally this summer, earning the Rally Novice title with scores of 98, 99 and 99! Chip and I then competed in an AHBA trial, completing the HTAD I title and earning our first leg toward HRD I. And enjoyed another beautiful fall weekend doing more herding, this time AKC, earning two more legs in Started to finish that HSAs title with an extra leg, and were, to my surprise, awarded another High In Trial!
In 2023, Chip has completed his Master Jumpers, Master FAST and Master Standard titles, collected a really nice 4-point major toward his AKC Championship, and is collecting MACh points and Double Qs as we go. He is also still working in herding, having earned a 1st leg toward his HSDs.
In 2024, Chip has completed his Master Fast Bronze, Master Jumper Bronze, and Time to Beat titles. He has done some sheep work, but for the moment we are focusing on agility over pretty much everything else, and he is loving it!
